Yes, PicTells does exactly that and much more. PicTells is a fun app for android devices which uses face detection algorithms to detect your mood and other facial attributes from your picture.

What all can PicTells do?

Face detection Face detection is the most basic feature of PicTells. It can analyze a pic (realtime camera, phone gallery, or url) and predict whether the picture contains a face or not along with the accuracy of prediction. In future version PicTells will be integrated with multiple face detection and analysis feature (presently it doesnt support multiple face detection)

Mood detection Yes, PicTells can detect the person's mood (happy,sad,angry,neutral and surprised) from his/her facial expressions in the image. It is the highlighted feature in PicTells 1.0, after the analysis of the image, the mood detection results are shown along with accuracy values and appropriate smileys and quotes based on the detected mood.

Gender detection PicTells app is intelligent enough to predict whether a person is male or female from his/her picture.

Other facial attributes PicTells image analyzer can also detect facial attributes like presence of smile on a face or if the person in the picture is wearing glasses. In upcoming versions PicTells will be more facial attributes and face statistics
